About Campus

Tengeru Institute of Community Development – Rungemba Campus (TICD-Rungemba Campus) is a unique public academic institution dedicated exclusively to Community Development training for female students. It is one of the eight former Community Development Training Institutes affiliated with TICD effective 1 July 2026. Located in Kitelewasi Village, Rungemba Ward, Mufindi District, Iringa Region, the Campus has a remarkable history dating back to 1926 when the famous Family of Lord Baroness Chesham and his wife Mrs. Marion Chesham (British citizens) during colonial rule constructed buildings for their offices, residential and to facilitate their economic activities basically farming and livestock keeping which they were engaged. Later in 1964, three years after independence Lady Marion Chesham together with Tanzanians formed Tanganyika Education Trust Fund and in the same year, the organization (Tanganyika Education Trust Fund) set up a Rural Women Leadership Training Center in the same buildings which provided short course leadership training to women from rural communities. In October 19, 1964, Hon. Thereza Ntare, the former deputy Minister in the Ministry of National Development and Culture, officially opened the Center and renamed it Rungemba Community Development Training Center. Early 1983, the status of the center changed to Rungemba Community Development Training Institute which started offering community development course to date.
